How would I start running a newly formed country?

Not many people get the opportunity to run a country and I really doubt that I will ever run a country. But, I think it is sensible for any person in the world to dream about what they will do if at all they were made the head of a newly formed country and were made to develop it. Everyone has their own way or plans and I have made mine too! Well, I guess it is something worthy for my first blog.

Disclaimer: I have come up with all of this on my own. It may be similar to a few countries but it is a mere coincidence.

I have observed that many newly formed countries have a civil war in the very beginning years. I think the major cause of this is because of indifferences between each person. So, the first thing I would do is pool up everyone and settle the indifferences. We all would come up with terms with each other and make sure that we are all wanting the same thing, i.e., the improvement of the nation. So, if I have the support of every single person in the country, and everyone wishes for the same thing, we can all do wonders. Unity is the strength I would like to have first.

The next thing is an investment. This is not any business investment that I will be making in a company or anything. I’m investing in education. I would not reap the benefits of the investment immediately, but in 2–4 decades, I can surely see how good of an investment it is. I would increase the quality of education to make sure everyone receives the best quality ever available. Having educated children who have the knowledge they deserve will surely help the country. So, I would be building excellent schools, colleges, universities, etc. and also employ qualified teachers who are really passionate about their jobs.

I would next tackle healthcare. A free healthcare will make the citizens healthy and never hesitant of going to a hospital. So, I would start building hospitals, ERs, better labs, employ doctors and nurses and make the healthcare system better. Mental health will be given equal importance along with physical health. Therapy will also be free to everyone.

We need food to eat and the major thing we should make sure is that we produce enough food for all. The country should be self-sufficient. So, firstly, I would set up a team to analyse the soil, the needs of the nation, and then divide the agricultural lands into zones. Each zone would produce a certain type of crop. There will be crop rotation among them.

The next area I would like to tackle will be industries. The nation has to have every single industry it requires. It needs to be self sufficient. Once we have everything we need, we would not depend on other countries. The less we are dependent, the better. Also, industries create jobs. So it will cause the money to circulate among the people too.

Then I would move on the energy production. I would like to go for cleaner sources of energy because I would not like to have the country’s ports get submerged to rising sea levels caused by global warming. So, I would set up as many nuclear power plants possible and also set up hydel projects and wind farms.

The military. This is something I have had a lot of internal debate with myself. As a pacifist, I would love to see a world without any wars and conflicts. I think in the near future, we would have it. I just hope that it happens in my lifetime. But if I am going to run a nation, I need to have security. So, I should set up a military. My military will not be huge, but every person who has attained the age of 18 will be made to serve in the military. College will a 6 year degree where they are trained in the military simultaneously along with other college education the person desires. Everyone will have basic training and after that, they are free to continue serving the nation in the armed forces or they can quit and continue in whatever field they are interested in.

The government will be present in everything. There will be free public hospitals but the citizens are entitled to set up their own hospitals. The government will have its own airline carrier, ISP, manufacturing facilities. There would be no contracts for public works. The government will employ people who will do the job for them. No middlemen required. Every single industry, be it from service industry to pharmacy to IT companies, the government will have one of its own along with other private companies to run.

Conclusion: This is what I have thought of in about an hour. I did not spent a long time thinking. I think I could have thought of a few more points if I had time. I’m sorry if my formatting is bad. I’m new to all of this and I’m learning everything. I would love to hear about suggestions from you all. I hope that I have done a good job. Please leave suggestions to me! Thank you! This is the end of my first blog.
